Learn how to apply to VFW Post 7189 and prepare for an eligibility review.

Apply to Post 7189

  1. Contact the Post membership representative to request the current application and arrange a private eligibility review.
  2. Prepare the completed application and military records showing honorable service and qualifying service. Ask which records are needed for your situation.
  3. Confirm Post 7189 dues, membership options and the approved way to provide your application and records before submitting or paying.

An application is a request for membership. Post membership review and acceptance are separate from activation of a private website account.

Who is eligible?

Official VFW guidance requires honorable service or current service in the U.S. Armed Forces and qualifying service. Qualifying service may be established by an eligible campaign or expeditionary award, Hostile Fire or Imminent Danger Pay, or the required service in Korea. Use the official criteria for the full requirements.

What to prepare

  • The current VFW membership application, with the personal/contact and service information it requests.
  • A DD214 or other military records supporting honorable and qualifying service. The Post representative can explain what is needed if your DD214 does not show every qualifying detail.
  • Your existing VFW membership information if you are transferring or returning to membership.

You do not need every possible military record. Ask the representative which documents establish your eligibility. If records are missing, request military service records through the National Archives.

Keep your records private

Do not send DD214s, Social Security numbers, medical records or payment details through ordinary email or website messages. Arrange an approved private review with the Post. This website does not accept membership applications, document uploads or dues payments.
